151 George Street
CLIENT: K R Developments
LOCATION: George St, Glasgow
PHOTOGRAPHY: McAteer Photograph
MLA have recently completed 151 George Street in Glasgow, a student residential development for K R Developments.
What was the Turnbull Building, originally a tobacco warehouse and, more recently, offices for Strathclyde University, has been sympathetically transformed to provide 87 studio apartments and a 2 bedroom apartment along with a gym, laundry, cinema, communal break out facilities and cycle storage. Keeping the traditional sandstone frontage, the interior was completely re-configured and a new two storey contemporary addition added to the roof to provide extra space.
This project adds to MLA’s growing experience of student residential projects, following on from the RIBA Stirling Prize nominated CoGC Riverside Campus, Canal Point in Fountainbridge and a multitude of feasibility studies and conceptual designs.
