RE:Locate for Queen Margaret University
We worked closely with Dyer Associates on site planning for this £43 million new campus, intended to consolidate scattered faculties onto a single location complete with student residences. The aspiration was to make it a sustainable campus, meeting the highest environmental standards.
The resulting masterplan contains a central square fronted by the academic building and the sports and social hub. Residences are separated from the academic functions across a green wedge that provides the fulcrum of the campus, exploiting the sloping site to form grass terraces overlooking a pond with a deck outside the refectory. Beyond this lies parkland sloping down to a large pond that provides SuDS retention and an important new habitat. Cycleways and a running path, sports pitches and an extensive woodland structure planting surround the campus heart.
The project was delivered through a 2 stage design and build contract, under which we were novated to the Principal Contractor for the second stage. The external works totalled £3million in value.
