The brief was to design a contemporary house in this exceptional site within delightful larch woodland. The open plan living space surrounds a sheltered south-facing courtyard accessible by sliding open one fully glazed wall. The two-storey north wing contains a double height entrance hall with gallery, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, cloakroom and study. The low carbon construction uses 'breathing' timber frame walls with recycled cellulose insulation and wood wool slabs finished with lime render or untreated larch cladding.
