Twin apartment blocks complete school's residential rebirth

Spectrum Properties have completed the final phase of their redevelopment of the former Shakespeare Street Public School in Glasgow's west end with the delivery of 32 flats in twin new build apartment blocks.

North Kelvin Apartments comprises 85 new build and refurbished apartments in North Kelvinside, with the former playground transformed into residents gardens.

Spectrum Properties managing director Bill Roddie, said: “The old school at Shakespeare Street is a remarkable building which maximised natural light for its pupils with two-and-a-half storey windows.

“We are pleased not only to have preserved it but also to have mirrored its architectural qualities and tall windows in the new buildings while remaining in keeping with the surrounding built environment.”

The two-tone brick apartments have been designed by Jewitt & Wilkie Architects.

It would be good to hear of similar progress with their project at Golfhill School in Dennieston
