Brownfield Leith Walk industrial site put on a different track

CW Properties has opened an online consultation for land to the east of 139 Leith Walk, Edinburgh.

A mix of 19 affordable homes and 27 private flats are planned for the brownfield site, including a commercial unit and 235-bed student accommodation block.

Served by an under-construction extension of the tram line the brownfield site, currently occupied by an NHS car park and derelict warehouse, will also include two areas of open space.

Industrial heritage such as inset steel tracks will be reused and incorporated into the design where possible, with the development will employing a mix of red and buff brick in sympathy.

In a consultation statement, the applicant wrote: "The built form on the site is reflective of the place brief diagrams in terms of building positions and active frontages. A combination of pitched and flat roofs creates an appropriate articulation that both respects the surrounding character and allows for sustainable drainage solutions and even renewable energy generation."

The development forms part of a larger phased development with separate elements brought forward by Longstone Capital and the City of Edinburgh Council.

A live chat with the design team will be held today between 13:00 and 19:00.
