Dual Strathblane homes to consolidate underused land

Plans for a new-build family home in Strathblane have been presented to Stirling Council planners, who are being asked to approve the build on land to the east of The Mill House, Milndavie Road.

Led by Alastair Forbes Architects the contemporary home seeks to follow the established building pattern of the village by remodelling access to open up fallow land for development. Adopting an L-plan footprint, delivering a four-bedroom home behind natural stone and timber walls under a slate roof. A detached garage is also proposed with a matching pitched roof.

In a design statement, the architect wrote: "A house type has been developed that references the traditional modest, quiet forms found in vernacular buildings in rural Scotland. Simple pitched forms are arranged to create sheltered outdoor spaces that open to the views and the sun.

"A restrained palette of robust, high-quality external material finishes has been selected to be in keeping with neighbouring developments whilst allowing longevity, richness and variation."

Sharing access with a neighbouring western plot, subject to a separate application by specialist oak-framed home provider Oakwrights, with each property given its own private driveway behind gated access. A number of objections have been made on the grounds that the site is prone to flooding, including from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.
