Shawlands Bowling Club apartments set to rise

Kelvin Properties have showcased a £10m residential development in Glasgow's south side, delivering 34 apartments at Shawlands Bowling Club following a successful appeal against refusal.
Designed by Holmes Miller Waverley Park features a communal roof garden atop a buff brick block with gold metal penthouse floor.
Stephen Mckechnie, the founder of Kelvin Properties, said: “It’s our aim to develop high-quality properties on brownfield sites to help Glasgow keep and attract the very best talent. “We’ve looked further afield to cities across the world to be inspired by the incredible developments in urban areas."
Entailing demolition of a section of the current clubhouse and a surplus green the scheme follows a 2018 application, thrown out on the grounds of overdevelopment with the loss of 50% of existing protected open space. The scheme was later approved on appeal by the Local Review Committee noting that Japanese Knotweed will be cleared as part of the works.
The work follows controversy around plans to develop a disused bowling green in Mount Florida, with locals campaigning to designate the grounds as protected open space.
A density of 46 dwellings per hectare is proposed
The green had been marketed for open space or continued sports use but this would not generate the financial returns necessary to sustain the club
