Double-pitch support block to extend Strathcarron Hospice

Strathcarron Hospice in Denny is to undergo significant expansion under plans filed by KKE Architects for a support block and link bridge on the site of an existing car park.
The new-build addition will connect to the main hospice via high-level access and provide a meeting room, offices and support accommodation for hospice staff - freeing up space in the process.
Finished in stone and metal cladding to tie visually with a recently completed main entrance pavilion the extension has been designed to ensure step-free access between both buildings with a connecting bridge spanning a vehicular ramp to permit rear access for departing ambulances.
Running through their architectural approach KKE wrote: "The double pitched roof form incorporates two discreet architectural languages, distinguishing the offices and meeting room from the more ‘back of house’ changing rooms.
"The office area was originally proposed as hung tile, but this was queried by the planning department, with timber cladding being suggested as an option. This was taken on board, however, due to concerns generally in the construction industry with combustible materials, it was felt another alternative may be more suitable, and vertical standing seam cladding is now proposed (it is also noted that metal cladding is incorporated in the new entrance design, so this would offer further visual connection between the various building elements on-site)."
The project will result in a net loss of seven parking spaces to 121 as space pressures reduce with the rise of home working.
Pedestrian access to play areas, a lake and gardens will be maintained
The expansion has been years in the making as the hospice sought the most efficient means of rationalising its estate
