Mosaic Architecture + Design with HMH One Clyde have prepared final plans for an £18m hotel on the Broomielaw.

Straddling the B listed Oswald Chambers and 9 Oswald Street before turning the corner to an adjacent gap-site at 66-74 Broomielaw the build will repair an important junction at the heart of the burgeoning River Clyde corridor.

Mosaic director Neil Haining said: “The height of the proposed design is five storeys, with upper floors articulated to form enlarged feature dormers referencing those of Oswald Chambers.

“This contemporary interpretation of the traditional roofscape creates interest at high level and preserves the views of domes to the adjacent Clydeport building.”

Alec Knowles, director at HMH One Clyde, adds: “Today, there are many vacant plots and brownfield sites along the Clyde. Such sites must be reclaimed as viable pieces of urban fabric to prevent unnecessary expansion and achieve Glasgow’s long-term aspirations for a high-quality built environment.

“Redevelopment of this prominent corner site will fill a llong-vacantbrownfield gap and contribute to the revitalisation of the Clyde waterfront."

When complete the hotel would cater for an anticipated rebound in the tourism and business conferencing sectors.

It would be good if the proposal acknowledged the Clydeport Building in some way. Even simply increasing the newbuild element by a storey would help alleviate the awkward interface there.
A bigger move obviously but it's a shame to the Clydeport building can't be integrated into a wider hotel proposal, forming the grand entrance and reception rooms.

This proposal looks terrific! Wonderful modern interpretation of the tenement and will create a beautiful approach from the south coming across the bridge into the centre of the city.
