Housebuilder commits to 140 Musselburgh apartments

Housebuilder Dundas Estates has partnered with property services firm Rettie & Co to deliver 140 riverside apartments on a brownfield industrial site in Musselburgh.

The Wireworks will rise on the site of a former wire mill with the £35m build drawing inspiration from its historic industrial predecessor through the use of durable brickwork alongside contemporary features.

Designed by Michael Laird Architects the £35m build overlooks the River Esk and includes 11 affordable homes with electric car charging facilities throughout.

Craig Fairfoull, head of sales & marketing at Dundas Estates, said: “From the outset of the project, we’ve felt a sense of responsibility to provide the town with modern, high-quality homes which respect the rich history of the site.

“We’ve used the factory as inspiration in all of our designs, incorporating elements such as durable brickwork, superimposed with more contemporary features.”

Bruntons Wire Mill produced metal parts and equipment from 1876 and played a key role during the Second War by manufacturing equipment for the aviation industry. The business continues to trade to this day as Bruntons Aero Products at Inveresk Industrial Estate.

Planning permission to regenerate the site was granted back in 2017.

140 units, 11 of which are affordable.. Am I missing something? I don't mind the appearance of the the proposals but struggling to see any open space for the development. & former Wire mill seems a bit of a stretch, it was a Tesco not so long ago.
