Dockyard care home to rise in Broughty Ferry

A brownfield site at Stannergate Docks at Broughty Ferry, Dundee, has been earmarked by Simply UK for a 64-bed residential care home.

Yeoman McAllister Architects are seeking full planning consent for the project which seeks to meet the needs of a growing elderly population by repurposing former industrial land.

Occupying a narrow strip of land measuring 1.15 hectares the proposed solution will create a linear block of accommodation along Broughty Ferry Road, behind a retained stone wall. An entrance lobby and atrium will be positioned to the mid-section with twin wings of accommodation branching off to the east and west. Common rooms and lounges will be positioned along the southerly facade with southerly views across the Tay from external balconies.

In a planning statement, the architects said: "The design reflects the character and identity of the surrounding residential area. The development also provides an opportunity to transition from the existing industrial use of the dock to the existing residential use of the wider area. All on a brownfield site which has struggled to find a compatible use over the last few years."

Built largely from buff brick, white render and composite cladding the design will minimise scale with upper floor accommodation set within a mansard roof, all set within landscaped grounds overseen by VLM Landscape Design.

It is a sad reflection on society if any form of official approval can be considered to this proposal. This is NOT ARCHITECTURE rather it is a crude collection of CAD components assembled without vision or understanding.
