150 affordable homes pledged for Granton Waterfront

The City of Edinburgh Council has given the go-ahead for the delivery of 150 affordable homes on the site of the former Silverlea Care Home at the fringes of the wider Granton Waterfront masterplan.

Designated for social and midmarket rent the net-zero carbon properties will be complemented by a new home for Craigroyston Community Youth Football Club as well as links to the promenade and shoreline.

Councillor Kate Campbell commented: "I’m delighted that we have approved significant funding for Granton Station, one of the most important historical buildings, and that we now own, and are working to light up the gasholder. It’s critical that new development grows up around these buildings respecting, and enhancing, the history of this important part of Edinburgh.

"We’ve also got plans for a coastal park linking Granton Harbour, Cramond and Lauriston Castle, which will be one of the largest coastal parks in Europe."

Hart Builders will deliver the £18m project from summer 2022 following detailed design work by Smith Scott Mullan; Will Rudd Davidson; Hulley and Kirkwood and Hardies.

Collective Architecture authored the wider Masterplan/Strategic Development Framework.

Interesting graphic. The focus of which is a bearded hipster with a baguette...meanwhile the buildings are obscured by overflowing roof weeds.
I guess we don't actually need to see the buildings as we all know it'll be a buff brick-recto' cut and paste.

@1 The previous graphic was an early masterplan sketch. I've switched it over for a more up-to-date representation of the quality of place envisioned.

This specific development is still a way off from delivery.
