Bellway and George Buchanan Architects have come forward with plans for 115 homes at Gartferry Road to the north of Moodiesburn.

Located nine miles east of Glasgow the greenfield development will tie-in to an under-construction Persimmon development and centres on the Auchengeich Mining Memorial.

Screened by an established tree belt the estate will be zoned into a series of smaller 'mini neighbourhoods' with density increased toward a single point of access. Established planting and trees will be retained where possible.

Outlining their approach the architects wrote: "A key driver behind the development is the establishment of a vibrant new residential area to the North of Moodiesburn.

"Respecting the memorial, the layout of the development shall step back from the southern boundary, giving this area over to open space."

Included within the housing mix will be 12 tenure blind affordable homes which will be grouped for easy management.

Think new shops, doctors and making our schools bigger than building new homes.

Need amenities like doctors surgeries,larger schools better shopping and a lot more amenities for young people before building more houses.This development seems built wrong way round,surely higher built flats should be built at back of development as to not restrict view of hills for general public

More amenities not houses are what's needed in Moodiesburn.

Shocking more houses. Gartferry Rd is a traffic nightmare . Moodiesburn has no infrastructure at all. No decent green area for current residents to enjoy. Schools one Do yours surgery who are at capacity. An hourly bus to take patients to Glenboig surgery who have to stay there due to the current situation at other GP practice. N L do not care about this area. Time people wrote and complained in mass numbers.

Give us a Nature Reserve, people need green spaces to walk in and enjoy, we are surrounded by duel carriageway and motorways with speeding traffic racing through the village and they give us more houses bringing more traffic with plans to use every bit of green space in the area to be built on , we will soon be so urbanised we will lose identity and become part of Glasgow or Cumbernauld

Are the new residents going to have to pass some kind of miserableness test? The architecture? Looks dull but that feels appropriate somehow.

There seems to be a concerted effort by current residents to comment on the plans. That's good and should be encouraged, however if you want to raise objections then you should do so on the council planning website.

I agree that with more housing comes the need to provide more amenities such as shops and doctors surgeries.

For some reason ( I believe to be the ridiculous land price/rent & rates charged) the UK is absolutely awful at providing these provisions.
Why is it so difficult for young businesses to get off the ground and stay operating?

As far as the development goes, I don't hate it and honestly is an improvement on a good deal of the housing stock that currently exists in Moodiesburn.
