Customisable Shawfair homes secure planning consent

City of Edinburgh planners have granted consent to a development of 10 customisable homes in the new town of Shawfair which promise to meet the need of occupants now and into the future.

Custom Build Homes (CBH) are seeking to break the monopoly of larger new build housing providers by designing a variety of energy-efficient detached homes, each of which can be configured in 27 different ways.

Built to the specifications of incoming purchasers each home will be delivered as a blank slate for subsequent 'self-finished' interior design or CBH will provide a house fitting service with designer Victoria Hopkins.

CBH founder Tom Connor said: “The prospect of custom housebuilding making its debut in Edinburgh excites me, particularly adjacent to the Shawfair development which has pushed the boundaries of what a new town should be. We’re on a mission to enable anyone who wishes to live in a home which they have designed or customised possible and affordable. For this to happen in my home city for the first time will be a great thing.”

Homes will have access to large windows, balconies and south-facing courtyard gardens with ready access to a network of cycle and walking routes to the city.
