31 homes approved for B-listed Buchan Hospital
A disused hospital in Buchan, Aberdeenshire, is to be repurposed as housing following a decision by Aberdeenshire Council to approve plans by Baxter Design Company for 31 homes on the site.

Maud Hospital will be converted into eight houses and 11 flats with a further four detached homes built within the grounds, arresting a steady decline of the structure since being vacated in 2018.

Now on the Buildings at Risk Register, the hospital generally remains in good condition.

Confirming consent in an official decision notice Aberdeenshire Council wrote: "The proposed development is acceptable as it will bring the vacant hospital building back into use, which is a building on the Buildings at Risk Register, as it is a Category B Listed Building.

"The proposed alterations to the main building and the proposed erection of new buildings both within and outwith the curtilage of the listed building are considered acceptable."

Externally the hospital will remain largely unaltered save for the reclad of later extensions in smooth cement render and vertical timber to more clearly differentiate new from old.
New additions will be clearly delineated
