The C-listed Acre House and stable block in Maryhill is to be rescued from ruin under new plans brought forward by Aleftav and Mosaic Architecture & Design.

 

Now designated as woodland trees on the 1.5-acre site will be partially retained with new planting to mitigate impact while enabling the creation of 69 homes within the grounds.

 

This residential quarter would comprise five apartments located within Acre House itself and a separate Mews with a further 64 flats spread across four new-build blocks within the grounds.

 

Highlighting the precariousness of the current building fabric the architects wrote: "The main house is readily entered through a number of openings and thereafter the interior generally, notwithstanding precariously balanced first and second-floor masonry and timberwork which could detach with little or no warning. Our proposal seeks to retain as much of the existing heritage structures that is safe to do so and the development represents the best chance of protecting and minimising the adverse impact on Acre House."

 

Heritage architect Peter Drummond and DWA landscape architects are assisting with the build.
