Austin-Smith:Lord lead the latest round of Glasgow city centre regeneration
Austin-Smith:Lord have been appointed by Glasgow City Council to lead the latest round of city centre regeneration after being handed responsibility for four key areas; Cowcaddens, Townhead, the Merchant City and a learning quarter centred on the University of Strathclyde.

A consultant team including Dutch urbanists Studio for New Realities, together with Urban Movement and Civic Engineers, has been assembled for the project, a continuation of groundworks laid for each District Regeneration Framework.

Tasked with enhancing each zones distinctive character; while simultaneously boosting the economy, environment and liveability, the work will seek to establish a springboard for the city's post-Covid-19 recovery.

Graham Ross, architect and urban planner at Austin-Smith:Lord, commented: “Developing distinctive solutions drawing upon the creativity and wisdom of local people, in combination with international best practice, will ensure our city can thrive in the future. We will explore ways in which Glasgow can recover from the impact of Covid-19. We hope to develop imaginative and practical ways to adapt to economic and climate change that deliver enduring and positive regeneration”.

Consultations will take place throughout this year and into next with the expectation that concrete proposals will be published by early 2022.
