Stalled Corstorphine care home reimagined as flats
A development of 25 flats is being brought forward for the grounds of a former electricity substation by Yeoman McCallister Architects.

Located on Station Road in Edinburgh's Corstorphine district the build takes its cue from a consented care home, where building work has been suspended, maintaining the scale and form of the preceding application while delivering a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

In a concept statement, the architects wrote: "Planning permission for a care home development on the site was previously granted, which, for the avoidance of doubt, has been preserved by the excavation of foundations in association with the erection of herras fencing, intrusive site investigation (boreholes), obtaining a full building warrant and partial site clearance.

"In view of the sites’ current condition and of its location, the proposal will look to create a strong local identity by introducing a high-quality replacement building, which demonstrates a distinctive contemporary language, that respects and is sensitive to its surroundings."

The L-plan block is arranged around twin stair cores, exploiting views to the Pentland Hills and Corstorphine Hill from its upper levels.

#1...verbal diarrhoea or written in this instance.
I'm sure your designs are as solid as a rock and stand up to close scrutiny by all.

Why do all these developments nowadays remind me of that song "Little Boxes" I used to listen to on the radio as a kid.

"Little Boxes"was written and composed by Malvina Reynolds in 1962. The song is a political satire about "the development of suburbia, and associated conformist middle-class attitudes" whatever that means nowadays.

Oh and is there any other colour than GREY used nowadays??
