LBA to transform a derelict Kinross farm into a rural business hub

LBA is to accommodate the practices own expansion with a farmyard business hub comprising workshops, office space and studios which will serve as a second home for the practice.
Orwell Farm on Glenrothes Road, Kinross, currently comprises an unlisted roofless stone steading and agricultural barns, one of which will be repurposed to form stand-alone offices and co-working spaces alongside conference and meeting facilities.
The design approach will see the demolition of one shed to reinstate the original courtyard plan by rebuilding the northeast corner in traditional materials, preserving the existing fabric while clearly defining new interventions and openings.
This strategy will see new build steadings clad in vertical larch cladding boards across both walls and roof, with red corrugated metal roofing specified for the retained shed.
Commenting on this approach the practice wrote: "The project has the potential to create a progressive and legacy development, where high-quality architecture and materials can create a sense of place and cohesion within this sometimes haphazard agricultural setting.
"Creating a community focused around sustainability, wellbeing and creativity with business at the heart will make it a unique offering compared to other office facilities in the local area."
The first phase of development will be the conversion of the steading to form two office units, one of which will be occupied by LBA directly with the other let to a watch design business.

I think these drawings are terrific, it's refreshing to see. It looks a nice, well considered scheme too. Rational, but not overly austere - still a sense of playfulness; it appears the designer/visualizer must have the same traits given their positioning of a 4ft Siberian Husky next to a free range chicken - it's only a matter of time i'd say. Joking aside, well done chaps.
