The University of Dundee has won £25m of initial funding from the Tay Cities Deal to build a major life sciences hub at Dundee Technopole.

A concept design prepared by Oberlanders depicts the innovation hub standing alongside the university’s current school of life sciences, part of an emerging BioMedical quarter that also includes plans for a research and development facility in the School of Medicine.

Professor Sir Mike Ferguson, regius professor of Life Sciences at the university, said: “We have already seen new companies established from our discoveries and expertise, notably Exscientia which has become a world leader in using artificial intelligence to design new medicines. The BioMedical Cluster project will catalyse a sustainable step change in that kind of innovation-led growth, accelerating company formation, company growth and delivering new jobs for the region and a sizeable economic boost.”

The new campus will facilitate start-up life science companies wishing to grow with specialist mentoring and support offered to all occupants.
