Apartment block go-ahead for East Kilbride

South Lanarkshire Council has awarded detailed planning consent to the formation of 11 apartments on the site of a former church on Maxwell Road, East Kilbride.

Maxwell Court has been designed by LMA Architects on behalf of Dickie & Moore Homes within The Village conservation area and takes the form of a single block at the junction with Threshold.

In a statement the housebuilder wrote: “Our decision to create a limited range of luxury apartments in The Village conservation area felt like a rather bold move, as it would mean careful consideration of its historical surroundings, its charming architecture and its vibrant community.”

The development will be facilitated by demolition of the existing Threshold Church.

It's kinda wishful thinking to see BMWs parked in front of this unit. Bona fide East Kilbride, just spruce with trampolines...

I can only presume #1 has never been to The Village. Plenty of BMWs knocking around along Maxwell Drive (not Maxwell Road, UR), but you'll have a long search for a trampoline.

I think this development is broadly sympathetic to the sandstone villas surrounding it, and it's a huge improvement on the old church. Looks rather big for just 11 units, though.
