Perth & Kinross Council together with engineering consultancy Sweco, have formalised plans for a new Cross Tay Link Road with the submission of plans for a new road link spanning the River Tay.

Comprising a new river crossing and an associated link road the £118m scheme emphasises ‘place-making’ through the provision of park and cycle facilities on stopped up sections of the A9 with a 3m wide shared surface promoting active travel along its length.

A ‘green bridge’ designed for use by both animals and pedestrians will connect existing footpaths at Highfield Plantation, the formation of new SUDS wetlands and the creation of a tree-lined avenue between Highfield and the A94 roundabout.

Describing the project goals Sweco wrote: “The proposed CTLR Project will incorporate a bridge over the realigned A9 and another bridge over the Highland Mainline Railway and the River Tay (River Tay Crossing Bridge). There will also be infrastructure to accommodate existing farm access tracks and watercourses and a mixed-use green bridge.”

Designed to improve air quality and cut congestion in Perth city centre the scheme is expected to be given the final go-ahead next year.
