210-bed Inverness hotel green-lit by Highland Council

Inverness is to play host to a new 210-bed hotel after councillors voted to approve the venture for the site of a decked car park off Rose Street.

Designed by CRGP the development will include a dedicated 'urban street' to the nearby bus station with the ground floor given over to either office or retail use with Hampton by Hilton occupying the upper floors.

Centred on a feature glazed corner and gym the hotel will feature ‘bookend’ corners clad in light grey rain screen panels with bedrooms framed benefitting from floor to ceiling windows.

In a design statement, the architects observed: “The proposed elevations are enhanced with contemporary but classic feature elements, framed and clad in modern materials. These emphasise areas such as the main hotel entrance, promoting visibility on approach.

“The overall development is bookended in two heavier, slightly prominent feature corners toward Farraline Park and Academy Street.

This is a respectful acknowledgement of the heavier stone buildings such as the Inverness Public Library and those within the adjacent conservation area.”

A combination of retail and commercial units will create an active frontage to Rose Street.
