GDL Architecture has come forward with plans for further student accommodation on Edinburgh’s Mayfield Road with proposals to erect 126 studio rooms on behalf of Lanark Student Living.

Situated adjacent to a separate plot earmarked for 148 studio flats the latest proposal will provide further accommodations for students at the nearby University of Edinburgh Kings Buildings Campus.

The seven-storey flat-roofed block seeks to be complementary of its neighbour and is based on a dual-aspect layout arranged around a central corridor accessible from a played entrance and double-height arrivals space.

Commenting on the design the architects wrote: “Primarily the material palette will be composed of facing brickwork, render and curtain walling. Windows will be set back within the building envelope in the interests of elevational modelling.”
 
Rising from a brick plinth and faced predominantly in white render the scheme supplants a 2016 application for 83 student flats.

This is utter mince.
7 storey, replacing 2 storey on a semi-suburban site.
