Dunfermline’s Linen Quarter breaks ground

Marshall Construction has been named as principle contractor for a major £11.25m development in Dunfermline town centre on the site of the former Pilmuir Works.

The Linen Quarter obtained planning consent from Fife Council in March with work already underway on phase one to deliver commercial space in addition to 37 apartments. A later phase will deliver a further 66 homes for mid-market rent.

When fully complete The Linen Quarter will comprise 157 apartments and 10,490sq/ft of office space.

In awarding consent Fife Council wrote: “The proposal involves redevelopment of brownfield land and conversion of category A listed buildings to create a mixed use development which will protect the existing built heritage assets with no significant adverse impacts on their setting and the character of the listed buildings and any features of special architectural or historic interest.

“The proposed design is complementary and sympathetic to the surrounding historic buildings and will improve the overall quality of the surrounding area.”

Overseen by Byzantian Developments and jmarchitects the scheme will repurpose the last remaining A-listed linen works in the town as the centerpiece of a new neighbourhood.

Great to see this moving forward. Loads of new houses have been built in Dunfermline over the past couple of decades but the vast majority are suburban. More homes in the centre is exactly what the town needs.
