Ruchill streetscape repair brings 16 homes

Maryhill Housing Association have obtained planning consent from Glasgow City Council for the erection of 16 new homes at Smeaton Street, Ruchill.

Standing on a triangular plot at the junction with Brassey Street the design incorporates a mix of 14 flats under a shallow a pitch roof bookended by twin houses, repairing the broken curve of streetscape with a simple wedge.

In a design statement Elder & Cannon Architects wrote: “The strict repetition of tall windows is used as an obvious ordering device to give the building some recognizable stature onto the public front, at the same time as providing well-proportioned room elevations for the dwellings overlooking the golf course.”

The housing association is also in process of delivering 65 properties at Maryhill Cross by the same architect.
