A historic town centre in North Ayrshire is set for significant change with an application to part-demolish the Royal Hotel in proposals submitted for the Dalry Conservation Area.

McMillan & Cronin Architects propose to demolish a disused wing on Garnock Street to allow construction of six new-build flats while retaining the corner element to provide additional accommodation.

In a submission seeking permission to press ahead with the plan the architects wrote: “The proposal is, therefore, to breathe new life into the site through the demolition of the portion of the building which faces onto Garnock Street, whilst maintaining the more prominent corner building.
 
“It is proposed to erect a new build structure, consisting of 3 x 1 bedroomed and 3 x 2 bedroomed flats, with access taken from an internal courtyard. The ground floor properties to the new build will have main door access and the upper floor units will be accessed by way of a communal staircase.
 
“The new building will pick up on the existing wallhead heights and will employ vertically proportioned fenestration patterning. Finishing materials will pick up on a white, smooth render, main wall finish with a stone-faced dado and window cills and banding.”
 
Access from a rear courtyard will provide parking for five cars.

Glad to see someone wanting to change Dalry for the better but we need more council housing
