Date set for Callandar social housing open day

Developer Lovell Homes has teamed up with Rural Stirling Housing Association to build 50 new social houses at Claish Farm in Callandar.

Situated within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park the development will occupy 4 hectares of farmland adjacent to the McLaren Leisure Centre and will include a mix of houses and bungalows designed to meet the needs of disabled residents.

Kevin McColgan, regional managing director for Lovell housing said: “We are delighted to be working with Rural Stirling Housing Association to deliver 50 much needed new social rented homes in Callandar. We are keen to ensure that this development offers real opportunities for local tradespeople in the Callandar area.”

An open day for local subcontractors will be held on 16 August at Forth Valley College in Stirling between 10:00 and 15:00.

"Date set for Callendar...".
Is this deliberately typo-pun-tastic?

Callander...

This is dreadfully bad. Poor Callander.

Looks more like the surface of the moon, going by those visuals, than Callandar.

Layout is actually OK...a wee bit of designing streets going on. House type plans are also decent but what on earth is going on with the elevations? I imagine the coffers were a bit bare at RSHA. Couldnt imagine Stirling Cooncil giving a consent to a private developer who wanted to build on a green field site with limited design ambition.

Used to live in Callander and this will help local demand. Bugs me that others on here critique social housing and miss the point that it is satisfying a real need in the local rural community. Ask the locals what they think and I can guarantee they will be delighted with new supply and won't give one jot that a would-be suburban architect doesn't like the facade treatment.

It is worthwhile opening the link in the article and viewing the planning application package. It is unfortunate that the applicant has produced some pretty poor 3D images because there are much better images in their D&AS that could have been used to represent their proposals in this article. As usual, the comments sections is full of negative comments from people who haven't taken the time to view the proposals and are judging a scheme on a pretty dreadful image, that probably shouldn't have been produced.
Simple solution is don't submit anything that doesn't show off your proposals in a good light!
