Chris Stewart Group has announced that they’ve made a start on site for a 245-bed AC by Marriott hotel off George Square as the first element of their £100m Love Loan development.

Encompassing both A and B listed buildings along George Street the hotel will also plug an 80- year old gap-site, helping to rejuvenate the area on the back of ongoing works to overhaul Queen Street Station.

Chris Stewart, CEO of Chris Stewart Group, commented: “We have a great relationship with Marriott having opened the Courtyard hotel in Edinburgh a number of years ago. We’re delighted to be working with them again on the same franchise basis, this time bringing their AC brand to Scotland.

“The interiors of the hotel are very much understated elegance and timeless in style, which works in both the new build element as well as the A listed 266 George Street element.”  

Demolition works are now being finalised with construction expected to begin over the coming months.

looks like the Edinburgh specialists will have to show their Glasgow counterparts how to redevelop complex sites. Looks really good

Not bad, until you come to the George Square view with this massive empty tower walls. For what actual reason? Glasgow-worthy carbuncle in brewing...

Edinburgh specialists? Sorry who might they be? From that small town at the other end of the M8 where nothing ever gets built except some trams that take years and years to complete, vastly over budget? Any collaborations in Glasgow will come from specialists from other big cities.

This announcement solely concerns the 245-bed hotel which encompasses the A-listed 266 George Street building and a new build element of 11 storeys on the John Street corner (The khaki green element on this schematic https://www.urbanrealm.com/images/news/newspic_8024.jpg). Constuction will get underway 'in the coming months'.

Remaining residential, office and leisure elements (including the tower) will be delivered in 'stages'.

The full development will complete in 2021.
