Manor Property Group has brought forward plans for their first Qtel branded hotel north of the border for a prominent corner site at Sauchiehall Street.
The current Art Deco building, formerly a department store, would be given a new mansard roof under the tentative plans, which have yet to be submitted formally for planning consent.
One of half a dozen sites selected around the country for the rapidly expanding hotel chain the 108-bedroom will include its own restaurant and lounge bar in a revamped ground floor with two additional floors of accommodation inserted in the roof.
Outlining its thirst for expansion Manor wrote: “Manor has identified hotel's as a key area for development and intends to expand its existing nine hotel portfolio by developing six hotels of 100+ guestrooms, with the possibility of further expansion once this milepost has been reached.”
Sauchiehall Street has been racked by a series of fires and store closures in recent years but has benefitted from a programme of public realm improvements.
