Cambuslang masterplan moves ahead with 330 new homes

Timber construction specialists CCG and Stallan Brand Architects are seeking planning consent to build 330 mixed-tenure homes in Whitlawburn in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire, to replace 380 existing flats.

Part of a wider £42m regeneration masterplan the project will include 230 rental homes to be managed by West Whitlawburn Housing Cooperative, alongside a further 100 properties for private sale.

South Lanarkshire Council’s executive director of housing and technical resources, Daniel Lowe said: “A master plan for the area was developed after extensive consultation with the local community over a number of years. A key aim of the masterplan is to create a distinctive and attractive residential development with streetscapes that deliver a seamless, integrated connection between homes for rent and sale whilst carefully connecting Whitlawburn into surrounding communities.”

Occupiers should be able to move into their new homes by 2021.

Twin gables = internal gutters = longer term issues. How does one overcome this?

#3 Also they appear to be using internal downpipes (unless the visualisations have omitted them). Presumably the WWHC will have allowed for sending cherry-pickers round these house types every year to unplug the inevitable leaf/twig blockades.

Ask any Scottish architect about internal downpipes and/or secret gutters - it's a beautiful idea that just doesn't work and results in unhappy clients long after the website photos have been taken.

A vast improvement on what's currently there. Demolish the appalling subterranean corner shop along with the westernmost Arran/Ailsa/Bute Towers (not shown in these schematics), and this part of Cambuslang will be transformed beyond recognition.
