Midlothian golf course courts visitors with £1.7m clubhouse

Calum Duncan Architects have prepared plans for a £1.7m clubhouse for Broomieknowe Golf Club, Midlothian, commissioned to bring greater flexibility for members and the wider community.

Oriented on an east, west axis the clubhouse presents its southeastern frontage to visitors approaching from Golf Course Road, acknowledging its domestic scale by being sited deep within the site. The opposite frontage maximises views over the course from a first-floor lounge, with rooms below accommodating changing facilities, a shop and reception space.

In a statement, the architects wrote: “The linear building form changes its angle slightly at the point of entrance, with the west end of the clubhouse being parallel the Golf Course Road and signalling the entrance location to visitors.

“The west facing gable end to the building also frames and engages with the primary circulation and focus, as the entry point to the course. The east end of the building is then played down with a hipped gable, feeling more appropriate and neighbourly in terms of the domestic context.”

Finished in light grey brick with elements of stained larch timber including the balcony, a canopy structure and projecting bay window from the lounge.

Planning approval has already been granted for the clubhouse with an expectation that a start will be made on-site from May/June.

Nicely crafted design....and lovely images, right down to the Volvo 240GLT.
