Robertson bring forth 40 Western Harbour flats

The Unum Partnership, acting on behalf of Robertson Living, has submitted plans for 40 apartments on Sand Piper Drive in Leith.

Lying adjacent to the Western Harbour masterplan the site was previously subject to indicative residential plans prepared by Cooper Cromar, for which outline planning permission has already been achieved.

Explaining their approach to the new design framework Unum wrote: “The massing of the proposals have been developed to emphasise verticality and interpret the vocabulary of the traditional feu-plots.

“A varied palette of materials is proposed to emphasise this, to create a more dynamic frontage that echoes the ‘organic’ development of the traditional properties. Materials are varied to also create the impression of varied building heights.”

Proposed materials include a palette of buff, blue grey and brown brindle bricks in addition to render and grey cladding panels.

Is it just me, or somebody un-paused the project pipeline axed by 2008 crisis? It's like nothing happened for this lost decade in design/landscaping/materials. Even then this kind of crap looked so dated.

It really saddens me that developers get away with such sub-standard pish. New development in the Western Harbour should be setting a precedent of high quality and innovative design. Leith deserves better...
