Edinburgh Napier University has brought forward plans for a novel mountain bike innovation centre at Innerleithen in the Borders, intended to serve as a base for the increasingly popular sport.
The visitor centre, operated by Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS), would serve as a hub for the surrounding trail network, which would be upgraded with professional jump runs as well as more family-oriented routes.
Designed by Oberlanders the innovation hub would combine community facilities such as a climbing wall, childcare and café with prototyping equipment for use by local companies.
DMBinS regional coordinator, Ed Shoote, commented: “The Tweed Valley is already home to some of the best mountain bike riding in the UK and every year its reputation grows. We believe this proposal promotes the area to become the European capital of mountain biking.”
A full business case is currently being drawn up for the build in order to attract the required funding.
