February start confirmed for new Haddington Primary

East Lothian Council have confirmed the appointment of Morrison Construction to deliver an £8.6m school in Haddington as part of a wider development of 800 homes.

Letham Mains Primary delivers a total of 14 classrooms will be provided when the school opens its doors in summer 2020, with facilities including a dining hall, social space and twin court sports hall with retractable seating.

Councillor Shamin Akhtar commented: “Work is well underway at Letham Mains to provide 800 new homes, including affordable houses, for our community. I’m pleased that the contract has been awarded for Letham Primary School and this important part of the development can move forward. I look forward to following its progress.”

The school has been designed by an in-house team at East Lothian Council and is being funded by the house builders directly.

External facades will feature coloured accent panels and timber brise soleil components as part of the window system will provide additional solar control and texture to the building facades.

A big improvement on what was first designed - looked like something Tom Hanks had built on Castaway.

WHY are councils still procuring poor architecture like this when we have fantastic examples in Scotland like Stallan Brand's Broomalands School - budget benchmarked against similar HUB procured examples.

The kids will absolutely love it. Who wouldn't want to go to a school designed to look like a minecraft creation?
