Manor Kingdom go for hole in one at Rutherford Castle
August 11 2008
Manor Kingdom Estates have announced ambition to construct a £50 million “world class” hotel operated by De Vere at West Linton, Penicuik. The Rutherford Castle Hotel will be set in 18 acres of landscaped grounds and provide 150 bedrooms, a deluxe spa and leisure club, cafes, whisky lounge, grand ballroom and conference rooms. It is hoped that this could lead to the upgrade of Rutherford Castle Golf Club to championship standard, allowing it to attract PGA events.
Proximity to Edinburgh and a rural setting are being marketed as a primary draw for tourists. Mark Cummings, of Manor Kingdom Estates, said: "There is no five-star world-class hotel resort near the Capital of the standard of Gleneagles or Loch Lomond.
"This hotel is just 20 minutes away from Edinburgh, and it will be a huge boost to the Capital.
"Manor Kingdom Estates is now liaising with local community representatives and Scottish Borders Council, and hopes to be able to start work in late 2008.
