Riverside Inverclyde whets appetites for 'first of its kind' incubator

Contractor Stewart & Shields has commenced a design and build contract to deliver a novel food & drink incubator in Greenock, spearheaded by Riverside Inverclyde.

Baker Street Food & Drink Enterprises is to be delivered on cleared ground at the junction of Baker Street and Drumfrochar Road as the second phase of a £2.5m road realignment project.

When complete the project will offer six separate manufacturing units of between 30 and 70sq/m which will be made available to tenants complete with shared office space, storage, a board room and showers.

In addition to providing accommodation Riverside Inverclyde will also offer mentorship and provide match-funding support for machinery and equipment.

The design team includes Allied surveyors, Assist Design Architecture, Will Rudd Davidson, Rybka and Brown and Wallace.

Development work is already underway with completion expected by summer 2019.

Shed 2 and a half -- future generations will be able to date the design down to the tea break.

Good idea but the design is derivative and lacking in scale and confidence. It should not be afraid to announce its presence but it is pretty low key as if embarrassed of its purpose.

D&B ends up as simple, easy to build shed shocker!
