Renfrewshire Council have fleshed out their public realm plans for the town as part of a £10m package of investment geared toward improving outdoor streetscape and transport links.

Complementing ongoing work to improve key cultural venues such as Paisley Museum and the Town Hall the work includes plans for a flexible events and gathering space around Abbey Close, improving connections with the town and river. County Square is also in line for a number of improvements including decluttering, expanded events capacity and the introduction of pavement cafes to serve as a town gateway.

This work will be complemented by roadworks designed to improve traffic flow and enhance safety.

Renfrewshire Council leader Iain Nicolson remarked: "Changes in the way people shop mean town centres everywhere have to reinvent themselves. We cannot turn the clock back but we can create a vibrant destination around our unique culture, heritage and events, and that is what we are doing.

"The public realm projects we are revealing details of today are key to that - they will create key outdoor spaces allowing our already-successful major events to be even bigger and better.”

Each of these projects will go to public consultation next year ahead of detailed design work in tandem with a feasibility study looking at long-term improvements to the road network.
