Hotel Indigo burnishes Dundee’s design credentials with new hotel

Hotel Indigo has opened its latest hotel in Dundee, capitalising on an expected tourism bonanza brought by the imminent opening of anew V&A museum.

The 102-room destination occupies a 102-year old jute mill which has been sensitively repurposed to provide contemporary accommodation under the guidance of JM Architects, who have retained period features such as iron columns and vaulted brickwork.

William Inglis, general manager, Hotel Indigo Dundee commented: “We are extremely excited to be opening our doors to guests. This is a unique and beautiful hotel and through clever design, we’ve really brought its heritage to the forefront. Dundee has recently been voted as one of the best cities to visit in 2018 and its rich culture is showcased throughout the city. With the opening of the V&A later this year, we look forward to welcoming guests from the globe and have no doubt that they will fall in love with Hotel Indigo and everything this incredible city has to offer.”

Paying tribute to the city’s past, present and future the hotel incorporates references to DC Thompson’s most famous creations, specifically the sheep dog ‘Black Bob’ hidden within dado rails. References to Grand Theft Auto videogame can also be found in the form of game codes secreted within literature and bedding has been created by local textile designer Hilary Grant.

Lovely to see the a great building being brought back to life.

Although I can't remember the Cowgate ever looking quite so... errr... Parisian as it does in image 2.

Great to see investment. Well done though they have missed a trick with the hotel signing which is shoehorned in, and could have been expressed vertically on the tower.
