Brunton Design are seeking planning consent for five flats above two ground floor commercial units at 231 King Street, Broughty Ferry on behalf of Handleflat Ltd.

Taking the place of an existing retail unit and garages within the conservation area the project seeks to deliver a modern solution within the historic neighbourhood by reinstating the building line with an active frontage.

Incorporating a curved corner, inset balconies and a roof terrace the properties will be faced in vertical larch cladding with a transparent stain and smooth white render.

In a statement the practice wrote: “A curve had been introduced to the south-west corner to soften this junction and reflect the curve on the south-east corner of the existing adjacent tenement. The building emulates the plan form of the context by creating a ‘pend’ into the private parking are at the rear of the building. The first floor and second floor amenity space overhang the ‘pend’ and the glazed frontage of the restaurant.

“The second floor communal garden space has a slatted timber screen to the western edge to provide privacy and reduce overlooking to the west.”
