Yotel secure consent for 256 Glasgow hotel ‘cabins’

Yotel have won planning consent to convert a disused office building on Glasgow’s Argyle Street as the chain continues its global expansion drive.

Following hot on the heels of similar conversion on Edinburgh’s Princes Street the venture will see Westergate House repurposed for its new role with inclusion of a feature entrance off Hope Street and creation of a gym, bowling alley and rooftop bar & restaurant.

Plans by Mosaic Architecture + Design call for the addition of full height glazing at both first and seventh floors as well as creation of a roof terrace and remodeled first floor canopy. A total of 256 guest ‘cabins’ will be slotted within the existing envelope with compact rooms modelled on ‘first-class air travel’ to entice guests through its doors.

The Westergate Building was built for BT in 1984 and is clad predominantly in polished granite tiles, which will be retained.

Has there been a change of owner? I read an article that Melia Hotels had bought the former BT HQ and were opening an hotel. https://www.peoplebank.com/pb3/corporate/melia/advertsearch_html.php?hotel=New%20Openings

Yes. Yotel are advertising the hotel for occupation from the fourth quarter of 2019, a few months after Edinburgh.
