Vacant ground earmarked for 6 Newington homes
Whitelaw Associates have brought forward plans for six flats and associated parking on vacant ground off West Savile Terrace in Newington, to the south of Edinburgh city centre.

The 0.1 hectare site will necessitate the use of partial undercroft parking with accommodation stacked above, retaining existing trees and providing an element of amenity space within a narrow parcel of land sandwiched between existing properties and a railway line.

Feature sandstone walling will define the main entrance and bin store with white render used elsewhere on the façade, broken by elements of timber lining at windows and balconies together with glass balustrades.

Built behind an existing retaining wall the properties will be reached from an existing shared access road.

Walk past the smelly bins at the entrance and then jump off the edge to get in and out.

Dull. Very dull.Nothing like walking past the bin store every time you arrive or leave.

#1+#2 I do believe you little monkeys are being somewhat facetious in your comments.
We all know the true delight of this scheme lies in the daily duel with the visiting cars going up and down the ramp and whether you can haul yourself up to the entrance platt out the way of danger in time.

It’s not often I actually laugh at a proposal.
But I do find this one quite funny.
The bizzarw thing is the image does actually seem to be correct!

Looking at the application, it seems to be the resident of number 9 developing these for rent.

Which begs the question as to why there's any parking at all? Infuriating.

Hilarious. 3 storey flats with undercroft parking down a steep driveway at the bottom of someone's garden, in the heart of bourgeois South Edinburgh. Good luck with that!

I think the execution is OK apart from the oddly inaccessible Paladin bins which seem to sit on a pedestal and the balconies that overlook the railway line. I think however you have to question the whole idea. At best its backland development, at worst its completely having a laugh. 11 cars off that wee private junction - nae chance.
