Princes Street Premier Inn to provide rooms with a view
Construction services group ISG has been appointed to oversee the internal fit-out of a former BHS store at 64 Princes Street, Edinburgh, transforming the property into a 137-bed hotel.

The £20.5m mixed-use development has been designed by CDA to include two new restaurants fronting Rose Street in addition to a smaller 40,000sq/ft shop, a requirement which will necessitate demolition of the current rear façade.

This will allow construction of a new concrete and steel frame building which can accommodate better connections through to the Princes Street half of the site as well as support an additional floor.

The Princes Street elevation will remain relatively untouched save for the replacement of existing window sections.
ISG will also separately carry out the conversion of Erskine House on Queen Street to form a 280-room Yotel, a process which will include retention of the current building façade.

Designed by Fletcher Joseph Architects this project will include the infill of one rear courtyard to provide additional front of house space and an increase in depth of a second courtyard through removal of an atrium to bring more light to basement rooms.

Andy McLinden, managing director for ISG’s Construction said: “From highly complex new build projects on tightly constrained sites in the Old Town, through to the redevelopment and modification of existing buildings, each of these projects has a unique set of delivery challenges but the common principle that they must all enhance the built environment.”

Yotel is expected to open its doors in early 2019.

That's what you want on one of Scotland's foremost streets...a rash. Not even a decent hotel.
