Edinburgh Marina developer restores Granton gunpowder store
Kevin Fawcett, developer behind Edinburgh Marina, has put his firepower into efforts to restore an historic gunpowder store at Granton Harbour.

Currently languishing on the Buildings at Risk Register the 170-year-old warehouse now has a bright future ahead of it after being named as a key piece of the planned £500m riverside quarter.

The sole surviving element of the Middle Pier, dating from 1842, the B-listed structure has fallen into disrepair necessitating extensive repair work, principally to its roof, to allow its conversion into an office and showroom.

Fawcett said: “I am delighted that we are able to play a role in saving this important historic building and to bring it back into productive use. The building is of significant historical importance to the local and wider community and has been allowed to deteriorate for decades; its renovation is long overdue. Once the various Edinburgh Marina developments at Granton are complete our ambition is for the building to be adopted for use by the local community.”

Construction of the Marina is expected to get underway in earnest during the latter half of the year subject to planning consent.

It's great that the local built heritage is being conserved and restored, but what about the marine and shore environment? There is next to no attention to this by developers - or can you update me please? Public consultation is lacking.
