O’DonnellBrown forge ahead with 206 Pollokshields homes
O’DonnellBrown Architects have come forward with plans for 206 homes, a shop and community hub for former industrial land off Maxwell Road, East Pollokshields, Glasgow.

The Foundry aims to establish an urban edge to Maxwell Road with properties set back 2m from the pavement edge behind retained sections of foundry wall where possible.

An area of linear parkland to the rear aims to connect with West Street subway while doubling as an access route for vehicles.
Outlining their approach to the elevations O’DonnellBrown wrote: “The approach to elevations changes as you move through the site however the material palette remains consistent, giving a strong identity to The Foundry. Generally the vertical proportion of windows reference the tenement buildings.

“A subtle datum, which starts with the Grade B listed building on Maxwell road wraps its way around the ground floor of The Foundry blocks, adding a more human scale to the buildings and differentiating the entrance storeys. This textural change in brickwork also helps to break up the perceived height of the buildings.”

AS Homes are progressing delivery of 140 properties on a neighbouring gas works in parallel.
