Restoration to breathe new life into historic North Coast 500 church
Groves-Raines Architects have been appointed to lead the restoration of a remote north coast church on behalf of conservation, land management and tourism specialists Wildland Ltd.

Eriboll Church, lent prominence by its location on the North Coast 500 route, will benefit from non-intrusive improvements to the building fabric to safeguard its future and improve its amenity for the local community as a function venue and events space.

This work will see new stained-glass windows inserted into the northern elevation together with the introduction of mains power, heating, improved access and a refurbished vestry. Surviving features such as stepped pews, wooden paneling and stonework will all be retained.

Tim Kirkwood, chief executive of Wildland Ltd said: “Many who have travelled the A838 and passed Loch Eriboll as part of a tour of the North Coast 500 route will have passed Eriboll Church and been struck by its beauty and simplicity within this stunning landscape. Yet sadly, over a long period of time, its condition has been allowed to deteriorate, making it more of a struggle to keep in use.

“Wildland Limited is keen to change that, with a simple yet high quality restoration that brings out the special qualities of the building, while making a handful of subtle enhancements, including beautiful stained-glass windows.”

Built in 1804 the church was subject to years of vandalism before being restored in 1995. It is now in the ownership of Eriboll Estate.

A planning application is expected to be filed in the spring.
