November 13 2017City Centre Avenues project.
The Avenues scheme has identified Argyle St west, Argyle St east, St Enoch’s Square, the Underline (a pedestrian and cycle route linking Great Western Rd with Central Station), Sauchiehall Precinct, Cathedral St and North Hanover St for significant public realm enhancements as part of the City Deal.
This will see each route overhauled to improve connectivity, infrastructure and streetscapes through installation of new paving, traffic calming measures and tree planting.
Councillor Kenny McLean, city convener for neighbourhoods, housing and public realm said: “The ‘Avenues’ will become an attractive feature for everyone who uses the area, whether for work, study, shopping, eating and dining, clubbing and theatre-going, or as a resident, and we look forward to working with partner organisations to deliver this project which will change the face of the city centre for the better.”
Work is expected to get underway at the Argyle Street in November for completion by 2022.
