CALA give final Jordanhill tour ahead of campus housing project
CALA Homes and 7N Architects have provided one last glimpse of the neo-classical interiors of its B-listed David Stow building within the heart of the University of Strathclyde’s former Jordanhill campus, before work begins to convert the building to apartments.

Proposals include improving the setting of the former teacher training college by demolishing an array of ad-hoc post war extensions and buildings which have sprouted within its grounds, allowing the sandstone structure to grace the skyline unobstructed.

Peter McLaughlin of 7N Architects said: “Stow College is solidly built from Dumfries sandstone and is in good condition, it’s more like an Upper-Westside building in New York. We think it will convert really nicely to a grand new entrance for a modern apartment building. It’s about trying to find a new use within the constraints that the fabric presents.”

CALA intend to convert the David Stow building to form 67 apartments, part of a wider scheme to deliver 400 homes on the 31-acre campus, retaining 40% of existing greenspace.

Detailed plans were submitted in March but these are still awaiting planning consent from Glasgow City Council.
