Barratt secure approval for 115 Leith homes
Barratt Homes are to press ahead with 115 new homes in the Leith area of Edinburgh after securing planning permission for a mix of apartments and colony homes in the area.

Situated between Ferry Road and Bonnington Road the scheme will include a landscaped cycle path and pedestrian walkway which will plug into the existing National Cycle Route.

Mansoor Ali, development director for Barratt Homes East Scotland commented: “New homes in Leith is good news for the area and good news for the city. We are continuing to see demand outstrip supply within Edinburgh’s existing housing stock, and this is unlikely to change.

“Our new development in Leith will go some way to help address this. As well as homes for sale we will also be working to deliver 28 affordable homes along with a number of properties for social housing, all set to help alleviate some of the current housing shortfall in the city.”

The housing has been designed by EMA Architects.

I never expect any great Palladian delights from Barrat - but this really is a huge pile of pants.
There's a chance to create an exciting new community in Bonnington. The flat designs above especially are just uber-mince.

Neither Barratt nor the people who purchase these flats will give 2 hoots what you think.

#2 Thanks for that startling revelation. I was under the impression Barratt followed my every utterance.
I think the general idea about architecture discussion boards is you give your opinion - regardless of whether you think the developer and / or potential occupants are hanging on your every word.

what are "colony homes" in the context of current volume house building practice?
Have they just called the terraces "colonies" to try and dupe the planners that this isn't just bog standard, aim low, maximum profit rubbish?!

Carlsberg don't do housing, but if they did, it would be better than this, even if they used old cans of Special Brew.
