Partick Interchange upgrade moves forward
Glasgow City Council in conjunction with SPT are to move on-site with a major refresh of Partick Interchange over the coming eight months in order to deliver better facilities and greater capacity.

Plans drawn up by Austin:Smith-Lord will see the present bus station footprint extended over a neighbouring car park to accommodate greater volumes of bus traffic necessitated by the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

An SPT spokesperson said: “SPT is seeking to award the contract to commence a major rejuvenation project of the Partick Bus Interchange.

“The initial works are due to start on site shortly and are estimated to take eight to nine months to complete."

Specific enhancements include restricting the operational area to buses only, improvements to pedestrian and cycling routes and better integration with rail and subway lines.

This new arrangement will allow six stances to be built with new shelters, real-time display boards and LED lighting.

The third most accessible location in scotland left to rot forever as blank gable ends overlooking a sea of tarmac and surface parking.

I find it quite disappointing that this is the level of aspiration that SPT have for the West End's main transport hub. I suspect it's not really doing all it can to get people out of their cars...

Well, it'll be an improvement at least. It is depressing that we can never seem to have anything better than effing tarmac and double yellow lines though...

Can't they reduce the number of parking since it is a 'transport hub' that allow folks to utilise train/bus - for sustainable reason? It will be a great square!

This could be such a good piece of town. Rebuild Morrisons...pop the park and ride carpark on top (e.g. Waitrose configuration on Byres Road), manage the spatial definition and create modern public square, (canopy over?) and redevelop the bus station properly rather than just zizzing up the bus shelters. And the real time display boards - would be a good idea but I've yet to find one that works in real time.

maybes it's just me but I'm not seeing how some new shelters, some LED Boards/lights and a couple of trees constitutes a "major refresh".

Need to include eastbound buses. It'll still be a one-direction bus station.
